I just posted this on Bernie Sanders's Facebook page :
Joe Orlow it seems to me that some things Bernie Sanders says don't make sense. That will not prevent my supporting him. Some things he plans to do makes sense on some level, but I think would make bad policy because they would be impractical to implement efficiently. That will not prevent my supporting Bernie. He deserves our support because he's a straightshooter. If he wins the presidency, the impact on democracy in America and worldwide will be of historical proportions. The New American Revolution.
some things Bernie Sanders says don't make sense
Bernie says wild things, like that the scientific consensus is that global warming exists and is basically caused by activities under the control of people. That is not the case. There are many reputable scientists who dispute the premise of man-made global warming.
Some things he plans to do makes sense on some level, but I think would make bad policy because they would be impractical to implement efficiently
Bernie wants to provide universal, free higher education. Seems like a good idea until one examines it. A student attending a school of higher education and the correlation to future income: the onnection between degrees and jobs isn't always there. And consider: free higher education will thus mean a kind of welfare system for adults between the ages of eighteen and twenty-two.
But Bernie shoots straight. What he says is what he thinks, and vice versa. A vote for Bernie is a vote for the principle that only straight shooters deserve to be elected officials. The same goes for Dinald Trump. I don't sgree with hom on all issues. But he's not messing with the electorate's heads. If he says he's going yo build the Wall, he plans to build the Wall. Again, whetther the Wall is a good or bad idea is not the issue here. The issue is finding and supporting straight candidates.
So to those who find a candidate whom they agree with, yet a candidate who shifts his positions like a kid shuffling food around on his plate that his parent insists he eat but for which he, the kid, has no appetite: I say fine! Vote for your chameleon! But don't wonder to me later, saying, "I was ripped off!" A fool is someone who votes for a candidate who has no intention of living up to the platform which he, the candidate, ran on.

Avoid criticizing people who already support Bernie Sanders. The reality is that some supporters are supporting Bernie for different reasons than we might be, and some are even supporting Bernie for positions they think he has, but doesn't. The bottom line is that they are prepared to vote for Bernie, so let the differences slide.
Avoid criticizing other candidates. Bernie doesn't do negative; neither should we.
The key to success is a focus on telling one person at a time that you support Bernie Sanders. Put up a yard sign. Wear a button from Purely Buttons. Make a T-shirt at Custom Ink. Use social media like Facebook. Don't yell. Don't shout. Don't spend too much time, effort, or money. Just do your bit and let other's know where you stand. Hand out flyers. That's it. One person at a time.
Hubert Humphrey was quoted as saying his goal was a one-vote plurality, or something like that. The point is, elections are won by whoever gets the most votes, even if all the winning candidate has is one more vote than his opponent.
So your approach should be to treat each person you meet as if their vote is going to make the difference between Bernie winning or losing the election. On the other hand, keep in mind that being underwhelming can be more effective than overwhelming. Let the listener fill in the blanks. If you lay out the cons, too, the listener will fill in the blanks with his own pros. State your case, but don't push it. We all have lives that include other things than elections. Even candidates aren't candidates 24/7. Play it cool.

Don't get lost online. No lack of social media like Facebook & Twitter & Reddit and random forums & articles to peruse. Email. Texts. Friends who just want to waste your time teling you why think Bernie is a good or poor or something in-between candidate. Win or lose, in two years the comments and posts will all be history, fleeting like life sustaining breaths -- here one moment, gone the next. But the connections you make one person at a time may last a lifetime. Or at least until the next election. So use the media. Within limits you set for yourself.
Don't get caught in endless, pointless debates with anyone. Keep in mind that Bernie's platform is fundamentally contradictory. He can't have it both ways. On the one hand, he supports the American Rule #1, which is "do whatever you feel like". On the other hand he wants to give out free education, healthcare, child care, etc. Yet we all know that when a persons gets something without effort they often fail to appreciate it or use it to the full benefit that can accrue to them and their benefactor. But an illogical platform is no reason not to support Bernie. His key points are fundamentally worth supporting, mainly, that the political system has been skewed by money from some rich individuals and PAC's.

Another NoVa webpage. It's on peopleforbernie.com
People for Bernie is a strange website. Not much in terms of navigation.
We are activists and organizers trying to build a broad, effective movement for democratic change. We come from different backgrounds, and were inspired by different issues and fights for peace, rights and the planet. Our goal is a government that carries out the will of the people, and not serve to increase the profits of the 1% at the expense of the rest of us.
Through the Google search engine located the Nova Alliance for Bernie Sanders on the website.

This man does not accept corporate donors and has always fought for those whom he represents. He wants to raise the minimum wage and has been talking about income inequality for years. I know here in Fairfax County that it's almost impossible to live on minimum wage here.

NoVa is on the map with Jake D. Parent
I started a NoVa for Bernie Sanders 2016 page. I have no official affiliation with the campaign, and I'm not sure what their plan is at this point, but if people wait to start organizing it will be too late.
Besides, how great would it be to see independent organizing collectives replace the top-down model deployed in past Presidential elections. Supporting the collective model of business organization is, after all, a part of Bernie's platform.
A fun discussion to have at least.
Anyhow, if anyone out there needs help setting up a Facebook page, website, fundraising drive, etc. I'm more than happy to offer what help I can.
Either message me here ( or Twitter: https://twitter.com/JakeDParent) or call/text any time: 408-313-9041.
I would love to connect with some like-minded people.
Let's build!

We like the idea of someone being U.S. president who is not beholden to anyone but the voters. That is why we are supporting Sen. Sanders. And that's why we could support Donald Trump. Again, this election is not about issues as much as electing someone who is not beholden to the Establishment of their respective parties.
